Celebrating Six Months of Fansplaining: The Publication!
In October, we’re marking the half a year since we launched with a special sale.
In April, we relaunched Fansplaining as a weekly publication of writing by, for and about fandom. As we approach our six-month anniversary this October, we’re running a special sale: 50% off your first six months for both our Supporter or Benefactor tiers.
At the Supporter level, you get access to every article, including audio versions read by the authors:
At the Benefactor level, you get access to all our articles PLUS our special episode podcasts including your own private feed—more than three dozen episodes in the back catalog, with a new one out every month:
We’ve published a wide range of reported features and criticism over the past six months. From decolonizing fanfiction to Spider-Man, global creative censorship to Philip Pullman, conlangs to Drake fandom, our writers went deep on the the things we love, argue over, and create new art about. We covered the Good Omens finale, African K-pop fans, and the convention artist alley. We dove into fanfic stats and Pokémon fangames; we analyzed queer pirate narratives and big tech on TV.
We republished book excerpts on Killing Eve and The Bachelor. Our first staff writer, Gavia Baker-Whitelaw, recapped The Vampire Lestat earlier this summer; this week, she wrapped up recapping Lanterns. In July, Kayti Burt covered a flashpoint around AI use in Heated Rivalry fanfic—a piece so good that the New York Times borrowed from it without credit.
We have so much more in the pipeline—but we can’t publish great writing like this without the help of subscribers like you. Take advantage of these steep discounts in our our anniversary sale, which will run from now through the end of the month. And if you’re already a subscriber, please consider making a one-off donation or buying a gift subscription for a fandom friend—every dollar helps us commission more great work.
We’re so proud of everything we’ve put out over our first six months. Now onto the next six!
